Libeco Home, makers of finest Belgian Linens for bed, table, bath and more
More about Linen and its ecological aspects Linen today is an expression of a lifestyle of simplicity, a return to values of the past, and to essentials. Linen is masculine and feminine, soft or may be stiff, is traditional but can be high-tech, and may be coarse, hard, fine or soft. A durable classic in white or natural, it is also lively in colors.
Linen must be lived in and felt as a pure product of nature that brings a particular sense of well-being.
In today's era of ever-evolving synthetic "performance" blends, linen remains the most natural and environmentally friendly choice for oneself and one’s home.
Through constant research and development, Libeco's production processes are continually refined to diminish, and hopefully eliminate, stress to our environment. At each step of production, whether spinning, weaving or finishing, lesser- or non-polluting methods are constantly being adopted.
Among recent improvements are: - retting by field-curing is replacing immersion in water - bleaching is now performed with non-chlorine agents - harmful dyestuffs are being replaced with new, non-toxic formulas.
Beyond these technical upgrades, the inherent properties of linen and its manufacture are quite "eco-friendly" because: - flax is a renewable resource, grown for centuries - every part of the flax plant has value, eliminating nearly all waste - flax is easy to incorporate into modern crop rotation cycles - flax needs little fertilizer or pesticides (wheat uses 3X as much, potatoes 13X!) - the inherent strength of linen yarn reduces the need for applied coatings - linen is fully biodegradable and commonly recycled.
In 1992, recognizing the growing demand for "green" products, Libeco launched its Eco-Linen Collection of bed sheets free of bleaching agents, dyes or finishing chemicals of any kind.
