Care of Kosta Boda Glass and Crystal
Care of Kosta Boda Glass and Crystal

Take care of your glass

A few simple guidelines that will give your glass a longer and more beautiful life.
  • Make sure that the glass is not standing too close to each other, it's better for them to have some space. Never turn them up side down and never stack them up.
  • Rinse the glass as soon as possible after use. Don't put them in the dishwasher, the heat and the detergent has a polishing effect that tend to wear down the glass.
  • Put a soft cloth in the sink when you're washing the glass, to prevent bumping the glass.
  • When washing, be sure to use warm water, soap or mild detergent. Wine connoisseurs claim that detergent leaves traces that affect the bouquet. They suggest that you wash the glass with hot water and washing soda.
  • In the event of large spots, spin the glass in a mixture of: rice (not boiled) and hot water with lemon or vinegar. This method also works well for glass that can be hard to clean, such as vases.
  • For heavy duty spots. Try immersing the glass into a bath with a denture cleansing tablet. Monitor the process carefully.
  • Small spots are most easily removed by dipping a cloth in vinegar and rubbing. If you'd like your glass to shine, wash them in a mixture of hot water, some detergent and a little ammonium.
  • Make sure that you dry the glasses with a non-fussing cloth. You could also start out with an absorbent towel and then use a cloth.
  • If, after the various techniques listed above, you're still not satisfied with the result, please consider contacting a glass specialist.
  • If a piece of crystal gets broken, it cannot be repaired to as new condition. Didriks and Kosta Boda do not suggest or endorse gluing or in any manner sticking the pieces together. Chipped glasses can be ground down at some repair shops, however these pieces will have an etched white rim and be considerably shorter than the rest of the pieces. Chipping or breakages are part of normal wear and tear of the pieces, and we suggest replacing them with new ones as they become damaged.
