Caring for your Match Pewter
In general, all pewter tarnishes very slowly and requires almost no maintenance. should you want to polish your Match pewter, almost any metal polish will do. (read the container before you purchase.) To clean your pewter after using it to serve food, hand wash in warm water with a liquid dish soap. Be sure to dry the pewter completely. Water allowed to dry on your pewter may cause spots. If spots occur, they can be easily removed by polishing or, believe it or not, by gently rubbing the area in small circular motions with "0000" steel wool.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Match Pewter:
WHAT IS PEWTER?
Pewter is an alloy (a combination of base metals) that is made of tin,
copper and antimony. THERE IS NO LEAD IN OUR PEWTER.
To truly be pewter, an alloy must contain at least 92% tin. Match
Italian Pewter contains 95% of the highest quality tin. Hence, the "95"
that is stamped into each piece of Match Italian Pewter.
IS MATCH ITALIAN PEWTER FOOD SAFE?
Match Italian Pewter is LEAD FREE and completely food safe.
CAN I PUT MY FLATWARE AND CONVIVIO TABLEWARE IN THE DISHWASHER?
Match Flatware and Convivio tableware are dishwasher safe. However, if
you have hard water (water with a high mineral content) we do not
recommend using a dishwasher, as elements in the water could possibly
cause tarnishing or pitting of your pewter. This is true with any
pewter on the market. We recommend that you use a low heat setting with
a liquid dishwasher soap. Please do not wash any Match Italian pewter
in the extreme temperatures of a commercial dishwasher.
CAN I PUT MY MATCH STEMWARE OR BARWARE IN THE DISHWASHER?
Match stemware should only be washed by hand, and should not be
presoaked in hot water as part of the hand washing process. Due to the
different expansion and contraction rates of glass or crystal, and the
pewter stems, prolonged immersion in hot water will weaken the bond
between bowl and stem.
IF I BREAK A PIECE OF MATCH STEMWARE, BARWARE OR CONVIVIO TABLEWARE IS THERE A REPLACEMENT PROGRAM?
Because accidents can happen, Match has an economical replacement
program for your stemware, barware, and Convivio tableware. Please
contact your Match retailer for details.
CAN I COOK IN MY MATCH PEWTER?
Pewter is a soft metal with a low melting point. Match Italian Pewter
should never be placed in an over, microwave or exposed to an open
flame.
