Designed in 1968 by Tapio Wirkkala, the Ultima Thule collection of glassware is an iittala signature design. The glassware surface has an icy, crystalline effect, created by a labor-intensive glass-blowing technique where molten glass burns the surface of the wooden molds. The name Ultima Thule is a reference to the Northernmost place in the world. Ultima Thule glasses are available in two different styles: the three footed glasses that make great cocktail glasses or with a thick stem used more for wine and cordial glasses.
